Drs. Helen Malone and Joe Wheaton were awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Education (H327A090052) to develop a technolog together with parents, school personnel, and community members designed to assist individuals with significant intellectual disabilities who are between the ages of 16 and 21 with acquiring and maintaining daily living skills using video technology presented via an iPod Touch. The overarching goal of the inPromptu project is to provide individuals with severe intellectual disabilities with a tool to be able to prompt themselves to incite them to greater action by increasing their competence with daily living skills, to assist them with learning and maintaining new daily living skills, and by supplying them with an easily accessible video system to increase their self reliance with daily living skills.
